The city of Bukavu has launched a long-anticipated road rehabilitation project, with engines from the Roads Office and the Office des Voiries et Drainage (OVD) now actively engaged in infrastructure work.

The initiative was officially flagged off by South Kivu Governor Patrick Busu bwa Ngwi Nshombo, who presided over the launch of the pilot phase on Saïo Avenue.

The road rehabilitation is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce road hazards, and enhance the overall quality of urban life for Bukavu’s residents.

Local officials hailed the project as a step toward restoring public trust in governance and addressing longstanding infrastructure challenges in the provincial capital.

“The roar of the engines will now become part of our daily rhythm,” said a city official, echoing the hopeful sentiment among many residents who have endured deteriorating roads for years.

The pilot project on Saïo Avenue will serve as a model for subsequent phases across other parts of the city, with further announcements expected in the coming weeks.

Governor Nshombo emphasized that this marks a new chapter in urban planning and service delivery in Bukavu, signaling the provincial government’s commitment to visible and tangible improvements in people’s daily lives.
