The Governor of North Kivu Province, under AFC/M23, Bahati Musanga Erasto, has announced new operating hours for the Grande Barrière border post between Goma and Gisenyi, Rwanda.

In an official communiqué issued on September 18, 2025, the Governor declared that beginning Friday, September 19, the border crossing will be operational daily from 6:00 a.m. to midnight (00:00).

The measure aims to ease the movement of people and goods across the busy frontier, which serves as a vital economic and social lifeline for residents of Goma and surrounding areas.

“All service heads and officials deployed at the crossing are strictly required to respect this measure, which must not suffer any failure,” the communiqué reads.

The announcement comes amid growing demands from cross-border traders, daily commuters, and transport companies who rely on the Grande Barrière for business and family connections.

The extension of operating hours is expected to significantly reduce congestion, improve trade flow, and strengthen cross-border relations between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
