Congolese Diaspora Representative Meets AFC/M23 Official

The Deputy Coordinator in charge of political and diplomatic affairs of the Alliance Fleuve Congo/M23, Bertrand Bisimwa, met on Monday in Goma with Congolese diaspora representative Tathy Yoka Mpela, who describes himself as an ambassador for peace based in the United Kingdom.

According to sources close to the meeting, discussions centered on the situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and on issues concerning the Congolese diaspora’s engagement in efforts to promote peace and stability.

During their stay in Goma, Mr. Yoka and his delegation reportedly visited several areas to assess local social and security conditions.

No statement has been released by government authorities or independent observers regarding the meeting.

The gathering comes amid continued appeals from civil society and regional actors for all parties to prioritize peaceful dialogue, national cohesion, and the protection of civilians in eastern Congo.
