The Court of Cassation held its solemn hearing for the judicial year 2025-2026 on Wednesday, in the presence of President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, attending as Supreme Magistrate.

The ceremony featured three speeches, the first of which was delivered by the President of the National Bar, who called for the abolition of the special procedure for judicial challenge.

He argued that only the disciplinary regime is suitable for magistrates, as it aligns with the code of conduct for public officials under Congolese law and ensures the integrity and morality of those interpreting the law.

According to him, any misconduct by a magistrate constitutes a disciplinary fault and should be addressed by a chamber of the Superior Council of the Magistracy (CSM) rather than through special judicial procedures.

The hearing highlighted ongoing discussions within the Congolese judiciary on ensuring accountability while preserving the independence and ethical standards of magistrates.
