ICC Chief Prosecutor Expected in DRC to Investigate War Crimes

Karim Khan, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) is scheduled to jet in to the Democratic Republic of Congo by the end of February to continue investigations into alleged crimes committed in the east of the country, Kivutoday has learned.

“Investigations are ongoing and will be strengthened on the ground,” According to the Kinshasa authorities.

This visit also aims to take stock with the Congolese authorities on the progress of the investigations and the procedures in progress.

The announcement was made following a meeting between Congolese head of state Félix Tshisekedi and Karim Khan on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

According to the Congolese presidency, the ICC prosecutor recalled that his institution is “already working” to collect testimonies and evidence of the abuses committed in eastern DRC.
