A formal swearing-in ceremony was held Monday in the city of Goma for Patrick Busu Bwa Ngwi and Mukiza Nzabinesha Gadi, who officially assumed their roles as Governor and Vice-Governor in charge of Economy, Finance, and Development, respectively.

The ceremony was presided over by Corneille Nangaa, head of the newly-formed Congolese opposition platform “Alliance Fleuve Congo,” and attended by prominent political figures, including @bbisimwa, an influential voice in civil society.

Their appointments come at a time of significant political realignment in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), amid continued instability and shifting power dynamics in the North and South Kivu provinces.

North Kivu Governor Bahati Musanga Erasto and South Kivu Vice-Governor Doux Bwenge were also present at the event, signaling growing coordination among regional leaders following recent administrative and security challenges.

Patrick Busu Bwa Ngwi takes the helm of a region marked by economic potential but also persistent insecurity, armed group activity, and strained cross-border relations with Rwanda and Uganda.

His deputy, Mukiza Nzabinesha Gadi, is expected to focus on revitalizing regional finances and pushing forward a long-delayed development agenda.

The new leadership is part of broader efforts by the Nangaa-led political bloc to consolidate influence in eastern Congo following months of campaigning and negotiations.

The ceremony in Goma marks a symbolic and strategic step in asserting civilian authority in a region where military interventions and rebel activity continue to dominate the headlines.
