Rwanda has received more than 300 of its citizens who had been held hostage by the FDLR, an armed terrorist group operating in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The group crossed into Rwanda through official border points, with expectations that more will continue to arrive in the coming days.

Upon arrival, the returnees underwent initial health screenings, including temperature checks, to assess their well-being after their time in captivity.

Rwandan authorities provided immediate humanitarian assistance to ensure their safety and comfort.

After being welcomed at the border, the returnees were transported by bus to designated reception centers where they will receive further support, including medical care, food, psychosocial services, and reintegration assistance.

This development marks a significant moment in Rwanda’s ongoing efforts to protect its citizens from armed groups operating across the border.

It also highlights the continuing instability in eastern DRC, where the FDLR and other militias continue to threaten the security of civilians.

Rwandan officials have reiterated their commitment to supporting affected citizens and ensuring their safe reintegration into society.
