Soldiers from the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) were involved in a physical altercation this week in a remote forested area of Maniema Province, according to a video circulating online.
The footage, reportedly filmed by another soldier, shows two members of the military fighting over what has been described as a dispute related to the distribution of food rations.
Sources familiar with the incident said the confrontation began after several soldiers complained about uneven access to foufou—a staple food in many parts of the DRC.
With shortages affecting several units operating in the bush, frustrations appeared to escalate into a physical fight.
The video shows the two soldiers exchanging blows as others look on, with the person recording claiming the images reflect the “true conditions” faced by troops deployed in remote areas.
The individual filming said the intention was to show both the Congolese public and the international community the challenges FARDC personnel face on the ground.
The DRC military has not yet issued a formal comment on the incident. FARDC units have been deployed across various regions of the country as part of ongoing operations, often in areas where food supplies and logistics are difficult to maintain.
The incident has drawn attention on social media, where users have expressed concern about the welfare, discipline, and logistical support given to soldiers stationed in remote areas.
