The Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC/M23) has announced that the 2025–2026 academic year in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) will officially begin on Monday, September 1, 2025, across all territories under its control.
In an official communiqué issued on Sunday, the movement urged parents and guardians to prepare their children for the reopening of schools and to ensure punctual attendance at their respective institutions.
“All parents and guardians are urged to prepare their children and ensure their punctual attendance at their respective schools for the start of the term,” the statement read.
The AFC/M23 extended its best wishes to students, emphasizing hopes for a “successful and productive school year” for all Congolese learners.
This announcement highlights AFC/M23’s effort to present itself not only as a military and political actor but also as an authority capable of ensuring continuity in civilian life, including education, in areas it refers to as “liberated.”
