Bukavu, South Kivu – A series of development and security-related activities took place across Kadutu, a commune in Bukavu, South Kivu, on Saturday, August 23, 2025, under the administration of the AFC/M23 movement.

The day began at Beach Mwanzi market, where works for the construction of a modern public market in the planks section were launched.

The project, supported by vendor contributions, is part of broader development efforts underway in South Kivu Province.

Traders were encouraged to continue supporting such initiatives, with references made to other infrastructure projects, including ongoing works on the RN2 near Yesu-Yesu 2, not far from Wima High School.

The Beach Mwanzi visit also included a mobilization drive led by AFC/M23 officials, who called on young people to enlist in the Congolese Revolutionary Army (ARC).

Several youths reportedly agreed to join and were taken to training centers the same day.

A similar campaign unfolded at the goat market, where authorities inspected construction works on a new public toilet.

The stopover turned into a community meeting focusing on local security issues, particularly the planned deployment of a professional police force in areas described as “liberated” by AFC/M23.

More young people signed up for recruitment during the event.

Later in the day, attention shifted to Karhale, a densely populated suburb, where residents build kiosks and makeshift houses on police land. The issue was resolved too.

Residents of Nyakaliba also discussed security concerns and preparations for the arrival of the AFC/M23 police force in the area.

The day concluded at Kadutu’s main market, with a review of ongoing community works in Nyamungo.

All together, the activities combined infrastructure development, community engagement, and military recruitment; signaled the consolidation of AFC/M23’s presence in Bukavu’s largest commune.
