More than 1,017 cases of Monkey Pox disease have been recorded in the Democratic Republic of Congo
The epidemic has reached its 38th week and has claimed more than 24 people in the provinces 18 health zones.
Kivutoday has learned of controversy regarding the situation in the Luebo territory.
While the provincial Minister of Health claims that the situation is under control in this part of the province, Jean Tshiawuka the territory’s administrator rejects the claims.
Tshiawuka argues that the disease infection rate among Luebo residents is high.
According to Tshiawuka, between 78 and 80 cases have been recorded in the territory while approximately 14 deaths have been recorded locally.
Tshiawuka added that a nurse assigned to the Kamanuma health post died from Mpox. This becomes the first death of a health official in the region.
The minister said that the disease remains under surveillance in Luebo, with the presence of health teams, medicines and other supplies intended for the care of the sick.
