RwandAir has introduced temporary Ebola-related travel restrictions following enhanced prevention measures announced by Rwanda’s Ministry of Health amid the ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The national carrier said foreign nationals who have travelled to or transited through the DRC within the last 30 days will not be permitted to enter Rwanda.
According to the airline, Rwandan citizens and foreign residents with valid residency documents will still be allowed into the country.
However, those who have recently been in the DRC will be subjected to mandatory quarantine procedures in line with national public health protocols.
RwandAir said the temporary measures are intended to protect passengers and crew as Rwanda strengthens preparedness, early detection and rapid response mechanisms against Ebola.
The airline advised affected travellers seeking itinerary changes or further clarification to contact their travel agents or the airline’s reservations office.
The move follows a notice issued by Rwanda’s Ministry of Health on May 22 confirming that there is currently no Ebola case in Rwanda, despite the outbreak reported in eastern DRC.
The ministry said health screening and surveillance have been reinforced at border entry points along the Rwanda-DRC border, while enhanced entry control measures have also been introduced at Kigali International Airport for inbound travellers.
Authorities said the government remains on high alert and continues to work with national, regional and international partners to safeguard public health.
The Ministry of Health also emphasized that all activities across Rwanda, including tourism, conferences, business operations and domestic travel, will continue normally as the country remains open and safe.
Residents and visitors have been encouraged to maintain hygiene practices and follow official public health guidance as a precautionary measure.
