General Sematama, the new leader of the Twirwaneho armed group, has announced that his group has officially joined AFC/M23 to remove President Félix Tshisekedi from power.
Sematama replaces the late General Makanika, who previously led Twirwaneho. His decision to align with M23 strengthens the rebel coalition in eastern Congo, expanding its influence in both North and South Kivu.
“Our goal is clear—we are uniting with AFC/M23 to bring change to Congo,” Sematama declared.
This move adds pressure on Tshisekedi’s government, which is already struggling with security issues. With Twirwaneho now part of M23, the conflict in eastern Congo is set to escalate further.
