The Democratic Republic of Congo and France have launched a €1.3 million project aimed at helping survivors of conflict-related sexual violence access justice.
The initiative was officially launched on Friday, October 2, 2026, following an agreement signed by DRC Justice Minister Guillaume Ngefa and France’s foreign affairs official during a visit to Kinshasa.
According to the DRC Ministry of Justice, the project will focus on providing survivors with legal assistance and supporting them throughout the judicial process until their cases are concluded.
Those affected will also receive assistance in seeking compensation where they are legally entitled to it.
The launch ceremony was attended by FONAREV, a Congolese government fund responsible for supporting and providing compensation to victims of crimes and violence.
The initiative comes amid broader efforts to strengthen access to justice for people affected by conflict-related abuses in the DRC.
However, despite the official launch, the DRC Ministry of Justice has not yet provided details on the project’s duration, the provinces it will cover or which institution will be responsible for its implementation.
